When you want daylight and a view
An option for living rooms, dining rooms, and spaces where adjusting daytime light matters. We test fabrics and positions in the actual orientation of your windows.
Sheer shades · Custom fitted
Soft fabric vanes between two sheer layers. Open the view, soften the daylight, or close the vanes: three ways to live with the same window.

One window, more possibilities
Explore four positions photographed in this Alta installation. Raising the shade and tilting its vanes are two different adjustments.

With the shade lowered, open vanes admit daylight and preserve some of the view through the sheer fabric.

Look closer at the fabric
Fabric vanes tilt between two sheer layers. That movement changes the view and daylight without raising or lowering the entire shade.
For the living areas and bedrooms in this home, we installed motorized Alta sheer/window shading in Aspen, Fresh Snow. The toddler’s room uses an Alta roller shade in Linview, Summer White.

Do not assume a sheer shade provides blackout or complete nighttime privacy. If that is your priority, compare an appropriate fabric and system or an additional treatment.

Good to know
Silhouette is Hunter Douglas's version of a sheer shade, and we carry it. The category also includes comparable products from the other lines we work with. We walk you through the real differences in fabric, vane size and operating system, then recommend based on your windows and budget rather than the badge.
Closing the vanes increases coverage, but complete nighttime privacy is not guaranteed. Fabric, viewing angle, and lighting all matter. We assess the selected fabric at your window and discuss another treatment when stronger privacy is needed.
They diffuse rather than block. Even fully closed, a sheer shade is not a blackout product — if you need darkness for sleep or a screen, blackout shades are the honest answer.
Yes on selected systems. Motorization can raise, lower, and adjust the vane position, depending on the product chosen.
They need gentler care than hard blinds. Light dusting or a low-suction vacuum tool is usually appropriate; we provide instructions for the selected fabric.
Only when soft light is acceptable. For reliable darkness or strong nighttime privacy, a blackout or layered treatment is usually the better fit.
